Denver wheels? The telephone dial ones? Yeah they are cool, but this GTI is the Edition 30 so it gets BBS wheels instead!

Thanks for the nice comments...

Welcome to the club! Mine...

I rarely take it out of Sport mode, but as the police officer who pulled me over yesterday said, it's really easy to get carried away driving cars like this.

Then he fined me $220.

Nice car face ache! I find S mode a bit aggressive for everyday 'pootleling' around town... But it certainly is fun joining a motorway in S mode... :-)

I'll hopefully get it remapped next year so it should be running approx. 300BHP!

Angel... Im with you, the BBS do look better! :-)

Love the 5-door GTI. I've always wanted it to be my next car purchase (I've done without one for years, and now live about 300 feet from the office, but it's definitely my next big outlay).

On the other hand, it's about 35 grand once you add in a couple basic options. That's a shitload of money for a Golf. Sure I could buy a used Phaeton for that

They are expensive cars to buy.... which wasn't great for me buying second hand as the prices are high!

Yes you could buy a LOT of different cars for the money! But... once this is remapped to 300bhp, it will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds... which is faster than even the W12 Phaeton (and most ofter non-sports cars), and it will go around corners much better! ;-)

Nice. I hear they're great cars, but I think the styling on the previous gen is better. Those just look too over the top.

Whatever this is:

I think the "gaping maw" of the new ones is just kind of tacky, it reminds me of the bodykits for civics and crap in the late 90s.

What's with the stupid skirt and the hideous rims on that one, though?

Plus, that's not a GTi, is it?

Edit: Yes, it is - they chose to lose the trademark red rim around the intake for that series. They came to their senses, later.

It's a stock GTI. Some special edition, 337 or something. Not sure how you can even tell what the rims look like, since they're spinning at 70mph.

I think I was referring to their diameter and the paper-thin tires stuck around their edges.

I could be wrong, though, and imagined looking at them at standstill. Silly me.

This is stock.

That is a stock regular GTI. The one I put up has the subtle bodykit, stock. The wheels are aftermarket. Running more wheel with smaller sidewall is a common performance modification for basically every car in history.

All Mk V GTIs are either 6-speed manual or 6- speed dual-clutch auto.

I think that particular generation looks plain and, I know that it is heavy and underpowered compared to the ones that came before or since.

Sweet. I've seen a few on the road the last few weeks and love the way they look. Having a manual makes me want one that much more.

It's a very good gearbox. Not the metal-on-metal precise feel of a BMW or Honda, but smooth and liquid motion. I like it.

Yeah, that gen was pretty heavy. The 1.8T wasn't great, and the 2.8L V6 was simply okay, but I think the Mk IV R32 is pretty cool.

It's still my fav of the "hot hatchbacks", good buy.

Edit: Well, next to the JCW MINI, that is.

I went for the DSG gearbox, so easy to drive, but not lazy like most other auto boxes!

The MK4 R32 is one o my favourites, but the edition 30 is better in every way except the 4 wheel drive and the engine noise.

And please dont compare a golf to a civic, you might just end up in a lot of trouble! ;-)

>shrug< they're all slow and FWD. I was talking about the styling. You call it plain, I call it "restrained" and classic.

And stretching tires that aren't wide enough for your oversize rims is a common visual modification for retards.
