I thought they did this during WWII? IIRC Eisenhower did it.

The fact that they fool radar and thermal imaging systems is pretty darn nifty. I guess though, all it takes is a bit of hot air.

Yeah, Ike did it in England, created an entire army of inflatables. I think they did the same thing in Russia at the time.
Russia has deployed fakes on the Chinese border for several generations, from what I understand.
