The Voice Memo app on the iPhone just got the light blue icon makeover.

Seriously Apple, knock it off.

Oh man. The old icon looked like somebody put a lot of time into making it, the new one looks like it took a couple minutes of Photoshop. Doesn't look awful, but the old one is so much more quality looking.

Why is it a deeper blue than the stock and weather apps? When did that new YouTube icon happen too?

the youtube icon is a home screen bookmark. I banished Apple's app to a random folder on the third screen because it became worthless after youtube updated their mobile site with more options.

I like blue. A lot. I do not like overusing blue simply because it's there. The Voice Memo icon was fine; a truly "iconic" image that conveyed the whole concept of a microphone. The new icon is more abstract and brings with it no new information. Change just to change is not needed.

Apple's usage of blue to me always seems odd. Many of their iOS UI elements are grey, yet they continue to push blue. Yet in OS X, they've pushed blue for forever, while retaining the Graphite theme, but when you switch to graphite, much remains blue. Annoying.

I have the voice memo app in a folder and I thought it changed! What the hell, the old one was fine and now I keep seeing this tiny blue thing in the folder and it is distracting.

Has anyone made a list of all the new blue apple icons or just icons with a lot of blue in them?
just looking in my dock I see Finder, Mail, Safari, iChat, and iTunes.

Ummm.

About 8 percent of males are colour-blind.
A blue/white or blue/yellow colour combination is the most visible for such people.

Hence, blue.

That doesn't make sense. What about all the other Apple apps that aren't blue? Is Voice Memo more important than Contacts?

Neither does not having aftermarket video cards for two year old Mac Pros.
It's Apple. It doesn't have to make sense.

It usually does though.

Frex, the redesign is to match the Nano icons.

Not necessarily a good idea, but it makes sense.

Maybe it was changed to increase visibility when in a folder.
Don't like it though.

I don't think it's a deeper blue than the stock app - it just doesn't have white lines across it. It appears deeper than the weather icon though.

Blueness aside, can someone tell me why the hell the ‘equatorial line’ in the Weather, Voice Memo, Stocks, App Store, and Mail apps are behind the centered logo itself, while in the Messages, Photos, and Phone apps, it’s in front of it?

This makes no sense to me.

Design consistency?

Isn't your question sort of akin to asking why the GUI of all apps have to be the same? Same answer, I guess.

Uhm, yeah, I wouldn't call creative and artistic variety an "inconsistency".

No, because this design feature has no bearing on the GUI's usability.

The icon looks like a toilet in a way, and Ives used to design toilets; it's Jon's way of sneaking the toilet motif back into Apple design since they ditched white-and-stainless products

I would, when they’re so obviously meant to be of the same mould, yet are not.

And the shade of grey used, or whether or not there are pinstripes does?

Some of them were sitting closer to the stage than others?
