This stray kitten decided that we are to be its master, so we've been feeding it and letting it come into the house and stuff.

However, it often shows up with drinking all over its butt. We think that he kills things, eats them, and then gets indigestion. He doesn't seem to have much problem with the dry cat food that we give him. We've been giving him baths to clean his butt and trying to teach him how to clean his butt, but that is getting old.

Have any of you had to deal with drinking cat butt? Any tips to figure out how to get the cat to either not have digestion problems or at least not get drinking all over his butt when he has the runs? Right now it's hard to diagnose what is giving him problems when we think he is eating stuff outside, so we're keeping him indoors for a while. Still, we're nervous that we'll be wrong about the outside world being the culprit for his drinking butt and he'll get drinking all over our house.

Your kitten is obviously drinking the cheap stuff when he goes out. If you invest in some quality liquors, the problem should cure itself. Once he gets used to the good stuff, he'll avoid the junk.

Since a kitten has such a low body weight, a single bottle will last a long time. At least a week, even for a heavy drinking kitten. Probably longer. So this isn't a huge expense. Do the right thing, perhaps even some single malt. Unfortunately, I don't know which brands are preferred by cats.

Two words, besson: "vet visit." If you're going to support this kitten, get him/her to a vet, get all the shots, and get the kitten as indoor as possible. Indoor cats live much longer, healthier lives than even in/outdoor cats. And you never worry about a neighbor running over your indoor cat...

But that little cat needs to see a vet. Now.

Cats adjusting to new food can have digestive issues like you describe.

However, with it being a stray and outdoors, it's also quite likely to have a serious illness. Take the kitten to the vet.

I suspect there's nothing wrong with it other than the fact it's a kitten, and kittens "drink" out of their butts quite a lot. They learn, don't worry.
However, having said that he still needs a trip to the vets for a checkup.

Also, it's winter. Little dude should be inside.
And get him off that hard food - most of it's complete crap which will give him organ failure by the time he's 10.

I was actually only half kidding about the Brazilian (if it's a longhair, it needs some shaving).

I'm not half kidding with my agreement you need to get to the vet. There are some really horrific cat diseases which will cause a slow, miserable death. A couple shots and it's no worries.

Really? I heard that the soft canned food is crap too.

We will be taking him to a vet to be fixed when we get back from our trip at which point we can ask about any other issues if they persist and shots and stuff, don't worry ghporter! Keeping him indoors at least for now and during our trip is also part of the plan, but being a kitten it would be nice to have the option to let him outdoors for a bit too when he needs to blow off steam and be a kitten.

At least, I like it when my wife makes me go outdoors when I need to blow off steam.

Usually sommersaults and yelling at things, until I knock knock knock on the door to signify that my wife should unlock the door and let me back in.

I did climb this tree once, but I didn't get very far. Bushes are prickly.

That too. It doesn't even go by manufacturer. Some Whiskas will be complete crap (mostly soy) while other Whiskas will be good (i.e. real meat - I think it's called "Oh So Meaty" atm).

But *most* hard stuff is crap, especially the main brands. Royal Canin is good, if you can get it over there.
