I noticed today that my computer IP address changed. Was wondering why since I have not done any thing differant on my side. Is this something to be concerned about?

No, don't worry about it. You're probably on some kind of DHCP system, which will change your IP from time to time.

Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

The main reason your IP changes from time to time is to help you. Your ISP has static IP plans at higher prices, and you need to give them more money. So they change your IP now and then, to help you make the right decision.
They have yacht payments due. Hurry up and sign up for a static plan.

If you reboot your modem, it usually gives you a new IP.
No way I can think of to use that to my own advantage. No way at all.

The reason they do this is so they don't have to administer IP addresses of clients who leave the service and new customers. It's easier just to give you an IP address from an available pool when you boot, rather than write a feature into the billing system of the ISP to tell the DHCP server that such and such IP address is available to someone else now, and to reserve an IP address when a new customer comes on board.

Thanks to hayesk, Doofy, reader50, subego, brassplayersrock and any others later for all the info. I would have a headache every day trying to figure out all the ins and outs of computers and the internet itself.
