28 male, brown hair & eyes...wait wrong forum.

US Soldier here. Will be redeploying to the states this fall and looking at the mac lineup in earnest now.

I've always wanted to have a Mac of my own...but also to game. I've found that a lot of my games are supported on the Mac so been saving for a little while.

I'll be sneaking around these forums learning as much as I can about these Macs and so forth. Have an Ipod, the silver one that has about a 2 inch by 2 inch screen.

Times are a little off here in jerkastan but I'll be on when I can.

First question...what's this I hear about folders being programs in of themselves? Like when you download a program you can open it by just clicking on the folder!?

I think what you're referring to is application bundles. (Applications a.k.a. programs are in actuality special folders.) In Mac OS X the support files that an application needs are all contained within itself. If you right-click and open the application bundle up you'll see the support files, but you don't even need to think about that point except in very rare cases. Applications bundles are so much cleaner than and superior to the alternative, tons of tiny unorganized files found in program folders on the Windows side.

MACs are crap and you can't even read Word documents...wait wrong forum.

Like Big Mac said, app management is so much cleaner on the Mac. In a few cases, additional files are installed in other places than the app bundle, but the OS X file structure is very logical and straight forward. And best of all, there is no registry
