Would it be a (potentially) good/better/awesome addition to the franchise?
Should it have the same producers, directors, actors?

The movies clearly got worse as time advanced chronologically so going back in time should only make it better. Right?

I pulled out my Reloaded DVD a couple months back and realized that I bought the full screen version when it came out. Gross.

That is awful.

I didn't realize how bad the older DVDs are. I had some people over and someone chose Usual Subjects to watch. It was one of those two-sided DVDs with Full and Widescreen, so I put in the widescreen side and the opening kept pillarboxing, to my confusion. Turned out the DVD was not anamorphic (On top of the poor quality of those early DVD transfers). It was horrific.

Leave The Matrix alone!

It was an awesome movie. It stands on its own. I'm glad they didn't try to cash in by making weak, pointless sequels that would have only degraded how awesome the original was.

What was that? No! You're wrong! I refuse to acknowledge that those movies exist!
I'm not listening! I CAN'T HEAR YOU! LALALALALALA!

No, just, no. It's perfect without sequels or prequels, let's leave it at that.

Sometimes, I think you need to just leave well enough alone. You know, like George Lucas did.

I'm not a cynic who thinks that sequels and reboots are always bad. There are many examples of great sequels and reboots.

I'm not someone who thinks that because a franchise had a lousy film, there should never again be another one made. Star Trek III really sucked, but I'm glad they still made Star Trek IV. Temple of Doom was terrible, but I'm glad they still made Last Crusade. Frankly, any franchise can be put back on the rails with a good story and strong production team. There were several bad Bond films, but I'm glad they still make new ones.

I'm not a believer in "closed" franchises either: that so-called completed story arcs should never see a sequel.

That said: I don't see any merit in a Matrix prequel or sequel, but if the creators wanted to make another, I'd go see it. I'm sure there's lots of room in the Matrix for more stories.

BTW, Matrix Reloaded was an awesome flick, and the haters can go suck it. Revolutions was so-so, but that's what happens when half your cast dies.

I agree with roughly 80% of this, which is noteworthy (to me).

Damn you. I was about to say that Matrix 0 should be directed by George Lucas, but you ruined it for me!

Matrix Zero is a great movie title. But I don't think I'm interested in the teenaged Morpheus meeting Oracle for the first time, or Ellen Page playing a tween hacking the IRS and escaping the Matrix for the fist time. I mean, really, what pre-Neo stories are worth telling?

It really wasn't, I mean, some of the action scenes (namely the highway battle) are amazing, but the story becomes so convoluted and pointless it really holds no merit to me at all. Not to mention the scene where Neo battles a hundred smiths looked dated when it released, now it looks like a piss-poor video game.

The third movie was just straight up awful, it has no redeeming features whatsoever.

The stories of the wars that led to the Matrix being set in place to begin with, perhaps?

Depends which Wachowski Brothers show up, the ones who directed The Matrix, or the ones who directed Revolutions.

This was covered in the Animatrix, and it was the worst of the various short films.

Oh, I don’t know about that … I think Rosie O’Donnell in skin-tight latex outfit thingy might fill out the role nicely.

Thank goodness they re-released The Usual Suspects a couple of years later. I bought that copy.

You must have seen a different version than I. The one I saw had a decent premise, but instead of exploring it, they just used it as an excuse to have cool gunfights.

I believe they're technically not even brothers any more. One of them isn't, anyway.

I'm sure they rereleased all of those early movies. It does go to show that I've had an HDTV for three and a half years and haven't watched that DVD in all that time (and much longer I'm sure). One of the reasons I stopped buying movies on DVD around '05.

Yeah, I saw it on IMDB a few weeks ago myself. There was some news about Keanu saying that he was contracted for Matrix 4 & 5, and of course that needed to be looked up. Once I found the original piece, it was quite obviously a spoof (he also mentioned doing Bill & Ted 3 among other things, and the speech was at a university that doesn't actually exist), but it had been re-reported by someone who didn't bother fact checking and then the story spread without the obvious joke hints included.

Is that a rhetorical question?

(Because the answer is that I didn’t. I looked it up because I didn’t even know who the Wachowski Brothers are. Wikipedia informed me that they now call themselves the Wachowskis instead, and that one of them had turned female.)

It was a fake slur aimed at your sexual preference, because obviously such things cause you to keep up both on the sexual identity of a hollywood duo and their preferred method of identification.
