Maybe this thread belongs in the political forum. If so, please move it.

I have just been thinking about this. The tragic events that just happened in Japan have sprung an onslaught of "please donate to help the cause" campaigns. The same happened with Haiti not too long ago. It seems that whenever this is a terrible disaster in another country, we are encouraged to donate donate donate. Which is great...I can totally get behind the idea of helping those in need, absolutely.

I'm just wondering, when events like 9-11 and hurricane Katrina happen in the US, do other countries run the same sort of donation campaigns?

Yes. In fact, quite a few countries donated after Katrina, including Cuba, Venezuela, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, South Korea, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

International response to Hurricane Katrina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia shows that tons of countries helped out.

I gave money to the Red Cross after Katrina, so did my company and a number of friends. It was quite a big deal up here.

Yea, it is strange, but not the only strange entry. I think Hungary could have coughed up more than $5,000 for example.

And it's particularly sad that people were left to suffer over a grudge that most living people, including the majority of those suffering, are too young to understand. And that's assuming anybody understands it well enough to explain the worth in its continuance.

Cuba (specifically Havana) have a lot of connections with the areas that Katrina hit.
