It is amusing to me that Apple is picking up on the tab in a process sandbox thing that Google devised for Chrome. It would seem to be that programming strengths of Apple and Google are very complimentary to one another. With the two copying and competing with each other, this certainly makes for a very potent technological combo that Microsoft and others will have great difficulty competing with.
I've always been puzzled why Apple has seemingly had some difficulty with the low level stuff: Finder performance, OS X performance in general, file system development (which influenced the design of Time Machine), etc. However, it is not consistently this way, iOS may arguably be one of Apple's best creations to date especially with these lower level details. Overall, I think it is sort of accurate to say that Apple has historically been good at marketing driven application development, and Google more of an engineering focused web-based project development where several projects ended up being experiments that didn't really go anywhere.
Am I the only one that thinks that maybe these two worlds are sort of converging and/or that these two companies are sort of like a couple in a bad relationship that need each other to learn from?

Do you think this is a coincidence ? I don't think it is.
A desktop OS X is a very complex system. Google has never had to build a system that would maintain that level of backwards software and hardware compatibility, and still keep innovating.
When we look at two directly competing areas (mobile device OS), both are pretty good at it.
Looking at MobileMe shows where Google's strengths and Apple's weaknesses are.

Yeah, which reinforces my "they need each other" assertion.
There is also common ground, namely Unix.

I dunno about that.
Sure, it would be nice if both companies joined to help each other out in their specific area of weakness. However, I think Apple and Google are for too much competitors that this happening.
Since Mobile OS is the future, they will be head-to-headsin all thy do. I doubt they find time to play nice.

I don't anticipate them playing nicely together, I just find the symbiotic nature of their relationship interesting.

Remember, Apple and Google are competitors in some areas and partners in others. It's a very odd relationship, with a lot of exchange.

It's called frenemies, and it's a fairly common thing these days. Apple has the same thing with MS (Office for Mac vs. the entire Mac-Windows thing), MS with HP (HP makes Windows PCs, but also pushes WebOS). The thing is that Apple and Google used to be great friends, and this changed almost overnight when Google revealed that Android had changed from a Blackberry clone to an iPhone clone.
