Maryland police have no suspects in a prank that left a Wal-Mart customer glued to a toilet seat. It seems someone put glue on the seat March 31, and it caught a guy the next day.

If they catch the prankster, s/he will get congratulations on originality. Oh wait, forget that. It will be second-degree assault charges.

Perhaps for an encore, the prankster could paint a seat in the police station. After which s/he'd better move out of state. There'd be no end to the traffic citations.

We did that in HS with Krazy Glue at a few basketball games, never got caught. I don't think police were ever called to remove our victims, however.

Had this been in the UK, they’d just have used the CCTV recordings from the stall to identify the perpetrators.

Serves the customer right.

You don't sit down at Walmart toilets w/o close inspection of the seat first.

I remember going in a couple years ago and finding that their restrooms were shockingly clean, but YMMV.

I'm surprised the glue remained tacky that long, and then cured as soon as the guys as hit the seat.

One also has to assume the Wal-Mart people didn't clean their restrooms for a day. I suspect the police are wrong - it was glued the same day. Even contact cement eventually dries out if not used.

They probably don’t. It was just a snarky jab at the fact that the UK is (or was, at least, a few years ago) the most CCTV’ed country in the world. If they can monitor pretty much an entire city’s street areas from multiple angles, I’m sure they could monitor a few public restrooms, too.

Yes, thats one place they aren't allowed to put cameras. Though I have seen them placed outside the stalls in night clubs to try to prevent people having sex in them.

We don't have entire cities covered by CCTV, just the city centres where shops, restaurants and clubs are. It helps police to break up fights between binge drinking louts more quickly.

That many people don't question gubmint explanation ?

Just look around, listen to politicians and gauge the reaction of the silent (stupid sheeple) majority.

It's pretty obvious that those bureaucrats have no clue what they are doing, but sweet talk people into believing that they do what's best.

E.g., the economy, look how they lie about the real problems (ginormous deficits, huge debt burden, inflation...).

Germany seems to be a bit less Obrigkeitshörig than most other countries, probably born out of historical reasons.

No, I think he was asking on what you base the conclusion that the increased amount of CCTV hasn’t actually helped the police break up fights quicker.

It really does help actually. Police turn up to fights without being called. Thugs are far more reluctant to commit the kinds of seriously violent crimes the did before the cameras went up. Or they commit them elsewhere. Still creates safe areas for people to go out without having to worry about getting attacked.

As of 2008 Greater London had more CCTV Cameras than the entire southern hemisphere.

One year for April Fool's day the kids secured the sink-sprayer trigger with a rubber band to soak the next hapless user of the kitchen faucet. Well... this year my wife tried to do this to me, forgot she had done it and 30 minutes later soaked herself!
