I attended my second Maker Faire this weekend (Sunday only). It was fantastic, though I didn't get to see nearly as much as I wanted to see because we went with a friend and his kids (like herding cats).

I briefly saw Adam Savage (Mythbusters) on stage and got pictures of Morgan Webb from G4 (not of me with her but anyway)!

I don't think I could pick a thing that was my favorite there this year. It was all fun and totally geeky. My wife is interested in learning about Arduino for her art, which I've never done before, but I think I should be able to help her out (I do work with FPGAs day in and day out so it shouldn't be a stretch). We picked up a beginner's kit, so we'll see how it goes.

Were you there? What was most interesting to you?

Steve

I didn't even know it was going on. Sounds like fun. The picture I get in my head, though, is the invention convention that Randall Peltzer went to in Gremlins.

I’ve never been but would love to go someday. BTW, Arduino rocks.

Sorry, I should have described what Maker Faire is for those who don't know:

Maker Faire: Events filled with DIY projects, science, demos, recycling, entertainment, and fun

In my opinion, it's the more fun, less playa dust, geekier, clothing-required version of Burning Man (which I did once and have vowed to never do again; don't try to change my mind). It's a mix of gadgetry, art, and DIY put on by Make magazine. No matter what your interests, you will find something there that will excite you.

If you didn't know about it or couldn't make it out this year, I highly recommend attending next year. Plus I think there is one on the east coast as well.
