I'd venture to say that at least half the members of this forum are too young to remember Columbo. I watched with my family when I was a kid, and enjoyed his character very much.

I'd have thought the series has been repeated enough times for 'the young ones' to know it. There's also been a stage version of it in the last year (in the UK anyway), Dirk Benedict played the Columbo part.

Dirk Benedict bailed out before it opened. I went to see it. It was excellent. The lead (an ex Soap actor) did a good job of channeling Peter Falk.

What a drag.

Looking at that photo, I am again surprised by how in Hollywood that even characters who are not supposed to be good looking end up being good looking anyway.

Peter was an extremely versastile actor, but so many people only knew him from Columbo that much of his prior work was forgotten, like Castle Keep, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, The Great Race, and of course all the work he did with John Cassavetes. Such a loss...

It may have been a small part but lets not forget The Princess Bride.
