Well out with the old, in with the slightly less old (I'm not a believer in new cars as I can't afford to throw away the depreciation and hate paying monthly instalments.

On Wednesday, had no plan or idea to change cars, by Friday had done exactly that. Away with the rubbish Peugeot 406 estate (2.2 engine but no real fun or performance and rubbish fuel economy too) and hello to:

2003 model. Full fat 2.3 HOT model with 250BHP (plus extra on hard acceleration for overtaking). I can certainly say it's quick, very quick. Fully loaded with kit too. Not bad for £1200.

Always wanted one. Now have one. Fuel economy is still rubbish but at least it's fun burning it.

Wow, £1,200 for a top-line 9-5? Very nice. I've always liked Saabs, and yours is quite handsome.

Nice. We drove an old Saab for years, they are excellent winter cars - important up here.

The wagon is particularly handsome. And they can last forever, if you're lucky.

Well, that one was probably cheap in the UK because the steering wheel is on the "wrong" side.

True. I drove a XJ6 for a while, in stunning condition, when I lived in London. Cost me all of 2k to buy at the time.

Just recently (march) got just about the same thing- 52 reg, 03 model 9-5 aero estate in silver- I paid £1800 though.

Not as sharp to drive as the german stuff, but as you say, speedy as hell and excellent value for money. Only big downside thus far is I've had to replace two tires in the last month, pothole killed one and a nail the other. Big wheels, low profie tires- very expensive.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.

Congrats, Doc HM. Looks like a great purchase. How many miles on it?

Congrats Doc. Don't care much for the Saab sedan/hatchback thing over here, but that's a good looking wagon.

Congrats. Yours looks way better, and 'younger' than the blue model.
