It's how it goes if the site is broken. Most sites aren't broken, but if you need one that is, it really sucks.
I'd say 90% of the time it happens for something I wasn't that interested in anyways. Right now I happen to be in a 10% stretch.

To my knowledge I've never experienced that problem. Mobile sites are annoying when they subtract needed content that the designers apparently think to be too advanced for phone users, but I don't think I've seen a server malfunction like that.

It usually happens for me on some BS entertainment site that's on the Google News front page.
Recently though, it's been a sales site. Not only will it lose stuff on an incoming link from Google, it commits the worst sin, which is losing an incoming link from its own site.
