Yeah, I chalk it up to the grandpa factor. When my grandfather was still alive, he used to tell me the same 4 stories every time I saw him.

I'm not finding the show nearly as enjoyable these days, but I can't stop listening to it because it's a traditional part of my Monday-morning drive to work.

Are there any other podcasts that you guys listen to religiously? I'm wanting to try some others out. My always-listens include:

TWiT
MacBreak Weekly
This American Life
Hardcore History
BS Report
Grantland Sports
The Guarden: Football Daily
99% Invisible

BS Report
Doug Loves Movies
TWiT
The Nerdist
very few, very specific episodes of the Adam Carolla podcast (depends on the guest)

My ex is a big fan of Marc Maron. I've liked the episode or two I've listened to.

Shwood and Jury often talk about HarmonTown, and say it makes them feel like inadequate podcasters.

Jury stated on the record that when it came to the Leo and Tom "he said, she said", much of what Leo said were lies.

Not a surprise, but a change from hints to direct accusation.

I understand the owners of the TWiT/PixelCorps building have put it up on the market. If Leo and Alex want to own the shit, all they need to do is to peel off $2.5MM.

What were all the brick house bricks sold for? Paying for the renovation? Good lord, I had no idea. If I thought the increase and ads and begging was bad before, it should be intolerable if they try to buy the place.

I'm wondering to myself if there'd be any upside to buying the building other than keeping up appearances and sunk costs.

The baby Groot which had its Internet 15 minutes a week or two ago was made by none other than TWiT's Patrick Delahanty.

Did anyone watch? I heard concerns Elgan would be an Apple basher.

Don't have anything against him, but would have preferred the Padre.

I don't remember excessive apple bashing. I don't remember much of it all, that section was so bland. I really think they spent more time talking about Facebook messenger than they did the apple event.

I really enjoyed the Vergecasts discussion on the Apple Watch, which really did a good job of verbalizing how I feel about the device.

It's surprising how good of a sense Leo has for whether people have "TV personalities". I mean, his producers even have on-air chops.

And then he whiffs this one. Really whiffs it.

I found myself tuning Elgan amazingly effectively while working and I wasn't trying to. His voice just doesn't hold a candle to Leo's.

Wow. After 8 years worth of shows, TWiT cans Amber Mac, and they don't tell her it's happening until the day they publicly announce it.

Somehow I knew a Friday post was someone getting axed. I jokingly thought to myself Lisa was firing Leo.

So does that mean they remove her voiceover from TWiT?

I really have to wonder about Lisa's credentials because so much of this feel unprofessional.

I'll save the catty accusations until they axe Sarah Lane.

So what shows was ambermac doing on the network, anyway?

I don't know if I should admit I didn't realize it was her voice until you mentioned it.

I'm usually really good at the voice-over game, too.

Just the Social Hour (née Net@Night), which she was hosting with Sarah.

Sarah's reddit show with Chad got axed, so she's down two shows. OMGCraft got the axe as well, so he's down two shows as well.

Chad seems thrilled though. I would imagine part of that is not having his property tied to a sinking ship.

Given the amount of ads they run, are they really losing money? Did someone make really bad projections about future revenue once they moved to the new studio?

TWiT was such a strikingly different entity when the studio was built. The way it's shaken out, the big shows are what they were before the studio: TWiT, Security Now, Windows Weekly, and MBW. Two of these are Leo in his office doing his own switching. When I stopped watching, the MBW regulars were all Skype. That leaves only TWiT seeing a material benefit from the studio.

My cynical side thinks they're in "cut our losses" mode.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way. They weren't wrong about revenue, they were wrong about overhead.

I think what they were wrong about was Tom. He was the keystone of TWiT evolving beyond "brand Leo". Since that cratered, he's left with a massive studio and only "brand Leo" to fill it.

I'll have to wait for their most recent show to get posted for details, but apparently Shwood and Jury are on the rapidly growing "banned from TWiT" list.

The reason being given is totally nonsensical, especially considering they bent over backwards to make sure their exit was on amicable terms.

Their crime was leaving while they were generating revenue.

There's a "telephone game" aspect to this. Obviously, Leo didn't call them up and say "you're banned". Leo's on vacation, so he's not dealing with anything directly, anyway. OTOH, Shwood and Jury have plenty of close friends at TWiT, two of whom book guests for shows.

For all intents and purposes, Jury pinned things on Lisa. He said a voice in his ear keeps telling him "it's not John, it's Yoko".

Edit: I think I misunderstood that last bit. The voice was the chatroom.

I often avoid putting conclusions I come to in here because I figure they're either naive or obvious. But the one I came to earlier this week (seeing Leo in London) is that he's just not invested anymore. I think he's happy to host TWiT and his other shows, but I think he's done with oversight of the business. That's why he has Lisa.

The problem being that if Lisa is bad at her job he'll either be blind to it, or have his hands tied and not be able to do anything about it.

At this point, I won't be surprised if it ceases to exist or is bought out in the next 5 years. The enthusiasm, focus, and acumen is no longer there.

I agree Leo seems no longer invested, but I don't think Lisa is supposed to pick up that slack. In fact, she's doing kinda what you should do it you have an uninvested creative lead: milk the shit for all it's worth before it ends.

I'm thinking the "blind eye" took place in relation to all the events which got TWiT to the place where Leo decided the best strategy is to cash in.

I can only assume you thought I meant that in a golddigger sense.

I meant it in a CEO sense. Not milk it for herself, milk it for the owner(s). If the owner(s) decide to cash in, that's her job: get the most cash.

Then, what?

If it's going to evaporate in 5 years, she shouldn't try to get as much as possible out of it?

That seems to be what's happening. A bajillion ads, cutting shows and talent.

I don't think they want to sell. It's not worth much without Leo, and will be worth less as the brand gets dragged through the mud.

The problem isn't this strategy, now, the problem was that they got to where this is a good strategy.

I don't think a strategy where you give let top talent walk away and handcuff one of their better shows until it flees is a "good" strategy.

I was agreeing with you.

Those were poor strategies. They turned the network into a flaming wreck. The strategy they're engaging in now (cutbacks, layoffs, consolidation, more advertisers, less focused ads, vacations) is a good strategy for getting the most out of a flaming wreck.

Leo and Lisa are back. The response isn't particularly surprising. Along the lines of "they weren't banned, but now they are for being asshole trolls".

The original source of the statement they were banned has DMed Shwood and Jury to say "WTF was that? You are now both dead to me. **** you."

I'm thinking that's Chad, so this has become a really horrible situation.
