Jordan's Star Trek theme park gets $1.5bn funding | Mail Online

The ambitious 184-acre site will be called the Red Sea Astrarium and will be located in the coastal town of Aqaba.

It will feature four hotels and Star Trek-themed attractions, including a state of the art 'space-flight adventure' simulator ride, which developers promise will raise 'real-time immersive entertainment experiences to bold new heights'.

So, is that enough to get you to visit Jordan?

The Vegas Experience couldn't stay alive, but this seems wise? Oh, right, mid-east. Carry on.

It'll be like visiting the not-Disneyland Disneyland in China.

Any of the female characters would be easy. It's just a burqa with a communicator.

All you need is to do is be king of a country. Not only may you get that smokin' hot wife, you can get yourself on the show too.

Sounds like a good start, but $1.5B in theme park terms is peanuts. I wish them luck.

I see nothing in those renderings that resembles a life-sized 1701-D. Fail.

I see she has her own iTunes Podcast too, but no mention of the Star Trek theme park for some reason.

You'll be surprised what Middle Eastern tourism industries will let you get away with (if you have money). Those times that I've visited Dubai on weekend nights, there were no shortage of booze or hookers. Not really my scene, but Bender would feel right at home here, I assure you.

I am a bit confused as to how the traditional souk smack dab in the middle of it fits in with the "space adventure" theme.

Edit: Oh, never mind. I guess it is themed as an eclectic blend of space adventure and ancient architectural influences?

I realize it's all about the interior, but you'd think something would look reminiscent of Star Trek on the grounds.

Booze is freely available in Jordan (except during Ramadan). Apparently, you can even buy it at the grocery store.

Dunno about blood wine though. I'd be more interested in Romulan ale anyway.

1.5B in the US might not buy a first class theme park, but what's union scale in Jordan?
