Kepler 22-b - One of the first "goldilocks" planets discovered!

BBC News - Kepler 22-b: Earth-like planet confirmed
Just a scant 600 light years away, Kepler 22-b is only 2.4 times the size of earth, is within the habitable zone for its star, and has a mean surface temperature of just 22°C (71.6°F).
We don't know yet if it's gaseous, rocky, or liquid. My guess would be rocky or liquid, as it's probably too small to be gaseous.
This is one of the first planets we've discovered that meet all the initial criteria for an Earth 2.0. Pretty darn exciting!

of the gazillion planets out there, i can't believe they couldn't find a habitable one at least slightly closer. </ranting>
if we have the technology to travel that far, sure we will also have the technology to make some nearby planets habitable by creating appropriate shelters and artificial ecosystems... no? =P

I doubt this will turn out to be the closest potentially habitable world. Give it a couple more years, and we'll probably find some closer ones.
