Yep. They were VIP tickets too with all the options (like $370 each IIRC back then), which includes a discount on accommodation.

I'm not there, but so far I like this little pocket knife:

Pocket knife, scissors, nail file, plus a 1 TB flash drive that supports both eSATA and USB. The pic says USB 2, but the 2012 version supports USB 3 at 220 MB/s. Only $3000...

Because every thumb drive is better when it can get confiscated by the TSA.

Well... that was a pretty dull CES.

Large OLEDs shipping soon. 4K, but not shipping soon.

A lot of it was stuff I've been doing for years. Home automation, home automation plus iPhone, convergence on the TV, Ryan Seacrest. This is all old crap.

As lame as the whole 3D thing is, all the companies jockeying for their share made last year a lot more fun.

Gigabit 802.11ac wireless seems interesting. Hopefully the range is good, but it's 5 GHz.

My experience with 802.11n on 5 GHz with the Airport Extreme has not been great. The range is much poorer.

5GHz is always going to have more problems with getting through stuff than 2.4GHz; it's the nature of that frequency range. In brief, the higher the frequency, the harder it is to get through objects (walls, etc.). 5GHz's great advantage is that it can support more channels and is less overused than the 2.4GHz range.
