Huh, I edited my post 1 minute after yours, before I had gone back to the lounge index, and thought you'd beaten me. Your post is more informative, though.

If you want, we can turn one of the threads into things we would do with almost 100 billion dollars in the bank.

I read that it wasn't just a good quarter, it was the 2nd best quarter by any company, ever, in the history of ever.
How about lowering some of your prices now?

Bingo, that nails it. It shows how stupid the stock market has become: the stock of a company goes down not because the company's profits and turnover decreased, but because »analysts« fear they may be lower than expected, but still record-breaking. Expectations are more important than substance.

Almost $100 Billion. They must be saving up to pay Dr. Evil.

100 billion is enough to buy Dell and HP in cash - with a decent premium. That is a truly absurd amount of money.

The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

I think they are saving up to pay off the US national debt. That is about the only thing with a price tag that Apple can't currently afford.

Heck, they could buy their own country. In a few years, their savings are about half of the GDP of Denmark or Finland.

That's how much they've reported. How much do they have in unreported, offshore accounts?

Keep your eyes peeled for an Apple shaped island emerging from the sea somewhere.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way anymore.

What would the name of that island be? What cats would roam the island and which wines would be cultivated? And would it have a landing pad for the mothership?

I guess it would have to be the motherland?
As for wine, some kind of fermented Kool Aid?

I'd say they could buy Adobe but that would be putting good money after bad.
Remember when Apple couldn't afford to buy Adobe? Remember when we were worried what would happen if Microsoft pulled out of the platform?
I think at this point I'd be looking at funnelling some money into a few of their best software developers to ensure that awesome software keeps getting developed for their platform. Though I don't think companies like Pixelmator are currently really in need of more money.

Have money in the bank sure, but 97 bil seems a bit perverse. Surely they could do some work with it in terms of investing in companies etc.
