"Okay Glass" tells Google Glass you want to give it a command. If there was no "okay", you'd ask for a glass of water and the Google Glass would freak out.

It would've been funnier if Google made the trigger word "Like".

Like, what's the weather.

Like, how do I get to the abortion clinic.

etc....

Google Glass

Glass of water

I just don't see the complexity.

If the activation command was "Google Glass", you couldn't talk about Google Glass without your Glass getting activated.

Example in the form of a playlet:

Random Dude: What is that Borg shit on your face?
Glasshole: It's Google Glass! It's really cool!

If you looked at Glasshole's Glass right now it would have turned on, tried to run "it's really cool" as a command, and gotten nowhere.

This would be even worse if the activation command was just "glass".

Example playlet two:

Glasshole: I'd like a glass of water.

Google Glass has now activated and is trying to run the command "of water".

"Okay, Glass" is a phrase which is almost never used outside the context of activating a Glass.

The Moogle phone has a similar setup, but the command is "okay, Google". This is another phrase which won't happen by accident.
