So, spinning off from the female thor thread and the continuing shenanigans that Mavel and DC come up with to breathe "new life" into their universes...

I guess lots of people on here read a lot of comics, so what can you recommend that ISN"T published by either of the big 2.

Here's a few of my faves:

Persepolis by Marjam Satrapi. Growing up in, leaving and returning to Iran

Grandville. Victorian steampunk detective story with badger hero (??)

Stumptown, Portland based female detective by Greg Rucka and Matt Southworth

John Laymans Chew. Just odd.

I recognise the artist in the third one. He's worked for 2000AD in the past.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

As far as I know Matthew Southgate hasn't drawn for 2000 ad ever but there is an artist whose style is similar. I can't place the name though.

I'm not a huge comic reader, so I can't name names, but with respect to the specific issue of female characters as discussed in the other thread, I get the strong impression webcomics are where you'll find the cutting edge.
