They seem to be (mostly) harmless anarchists looking to get stoned and have fun. I'm not sure why they attract so much negative attention, even to the point they're classified by the SPLC (pfftt) as a "hate group". Have a few Jugs misbehaved or been destructive? Sure, but there are bad apples in every barrel.

I think it's the obsession level aspect. I guess like furries. A little too off the beaten path.

Why can't these things ever be about topless ladies running around for no apparent reason?

At least then Juggalos would make sense as a name.

Oh and the obvious aspect: No one likes clowns. That's not a joke. Very few people like clowns.

Clowns are an annoyance at best, and at worst demons that suck life from people's souls. They should be rounded up and sent to Australia.

Have you ever listened to the Insane Clown Posse? Or listened to them speak about anything?

It's a certain brand of willfully ignorant, destructive nihilism that's just really off putting.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I thought their 4th album was hilarious. Didn't they turn out to be fanatical Christians or something?
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Turns out this was a hoax.

A pretty funny one, though.

People like sex, music, and drugs, oftentimes all together, and sometimes they do stupid shit when hyped-up on them (see Woodstock and Lollapalooza). That just makes them somewhat unstable, and likely a little antisocial, not a "gang".

Yep. But then, we're in the second McCarthy era, so that's not surprising.

...that just seems like a restatement of the OP. You asked why they attracted so much hate. I gave a few plausible theories.

Does anyone else think that as a band, getting your fans on an FBI 'gangs of interest' list is quite an achievement?

Another point: For most people, face paint is a bridge too far. This goes for sports fans as well. (There's even a Seinfeld episode on it)

I'd wager that the average Dawg Pound member is more dangerous than a typical Juggalo.

They clarified later than they're actually something more akin to a deist than a Christian. Violent J was the only one that's ever been to a church, and the last time was over three decades ago.

I knew I was drawn to this thread for a reason. Seinfeld references are like my dog whistle.

Vampire Juggalos?

A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for cutting off a woman’s finger and drinking her blood in a ritual to honor a fellow fan of the Detroit rap duo Insane Clown Posse.

They buried the lead...

The group attempted to stop the bleeding by using a car cigarette lighter which failed. They then used a blowtorch.

A blow torch!?

WBAY-TV reported the woman first allowed Schrap to cut her arm with a machete and drink her blood. She eventually gave permission to Schrap cut off her right pinky finger with a machete, which according to court documents required more than one blow to sever.

“Jon then placed the finger in his freezer where he said he would cook it and eat it later,” court documents said. “The group then attempted to stop the bleeding by using a car cigarette lighter which failed. They then used a blowtorch.”
add cannibalism.
