Not sure what people think of macosrumors but according to there site Apple Event coming soon to announce dual-processor 667/733MHz G4s and new iBooks, other changes. They say also possibility of new iBooks and the update we have been waiting for the 10.0.1 update. If this is true, WOW is all I need to say.

Most certainly an update to Mac OS X, but I have some doubts on the rest of the news.

I agree with this one.

I have been saying this since January. I hope I'm right.
dual 667/733 G4s
new iBooks
revision 2 PBG4 (with new graphics chipset)
OS X: CDRW support

I guessed that they would have a dual 733 sooner or later because they came out with that 3000 dollar model because they said they now had enough G4 chips.

WOW! A software update that has been out for a month AND an extra processor in a machine that could have been that way in Jan PLUS an update to a two-year-old chipset IN ADDITION TO a completely outdated and under-powered sorta-sub-laptop!!?? It's almost TOO much!!

I certainly hope for an OS X update - and fully expect a dual 733 or dual 1ghz too.
I also kind of hope Apple introduces an iMac with optional DVD.

do you have a friend who is a teacher?

The Apple Store for Education sells iMacs with DVD ROMs as an option.

also. OWC carries the Apple DVD ROM replacement drives so you could remove the CDRW, buy that, and then sell the CDRW

Hasn't it already been established that MacOSRumors has no credibility?

Instead of listening to them, just make up your own rumors. You will have about as much success predicting Apple's future as MOSR.

I'm personally looking forward to new G4 enclosures and the MaxBus arcitechture used in conjuction with DDR-SDRAM. Couple that with a blazing fast Ultra-SCSI HD and GeForce 3 and many bottlenecks that hold up today's units will be gone.

An update to OS X would be nice, too!

ummm I don't know...they didn't predict That iMacs at Macworld tokyo would come with DVD/CDRW (aka, Combo Drive) Monday Feb 20th Appleinsider reported that. I know we all regard AI in higher standard than macosrumors. BTW on the 20th they didn't report anything of the sort that AI did. I'm not saying that they are going to be right just that since they've been pretty close before wouldn't that stuff be pretty good if it came out at that time? We will see...

This is an obvious quote from an Apple mole! Nice try to discredit them, but actually they have been pretty spot on lately, and with a bunch more updates than AppleInsider (CD-R/DVD my ass)

MacOSRumors seems to be pretty close. It wouldn't surpise me that as soon as our friend Steve reads something on that site he changes his plans.

What will the 10.01 Update address?
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Yonkers can have better TV reception.

A lot I hope! In the state OSX is in it will be one hell of an updater - and if it isn't, buh bye OSX!
It'll die.

Dorsal?

Back when AI was actually running, a character by the name of dorsal, who had accurately predicted something in the past (i dunno what), said that he was testing UMA-2: firewire b, and better/cooler chips in three different G4 flavors (each had a different amount/speed of on-die cache). It might all be crap, but wasn't iMac the first to debut UMA1 and iBook got UMA1 before G3 powerBook? The pattern might be set to repeat wherein the powerbook is again the last product to recieve the latest UMA motherboard.
Apple: bumping prices, not specs.

they BETTER come out with dual 733 processers. They are behind as it is. How can Apple compete with the rest of the market when they offer Second class/rate chips.? It would be cool Apple would announce the use of another chip, perhaps AMD. Motorola is unreliable. Apple should not continue to rely on Motorola or who ever is responsible with their inconsistant supply of chips.
At least at the Asylum, they treat me with respect.

In all seriousness, would you rather see an alternative CPU from Apple? Something sold alongside the current models....something with a (gasp) AMD Athlon Thunderbird 266DDR at 1.4GHz. What about the soon-to-be-available multiprocessor configurations? Dual 1.4GHz sounds appealing...

I don't think it would be a mistake for Apple to distance itself from Motorola, at this point.

Unfortunately thats not really an option. All the software is PPC, so in order to switch to T-Birds (which would be damn sweet), it'd all need to be re done... I mean sure, there are versions of OSX out there that are x86 capable, and perhaps the entire point of OSX is that Carbon apps can run on OSX regardless of what OSX is running on - who knows? That'd be nice. A ploy by Apple... interesting.

If AMD could put some sort of code morphing in the Athlon like with the Crusoe it'd be nice - I mean, it shouldn't be that hard to get it all running on an Athlon...

But my hopes (/dreams) are for a mass produced Power4... *sigh*
