As it seems iSync MUST use the .Mac infrastructure to do it's job.
This means that all my personal data will be on a server at Apple.
I think the license agreement somewhere says Apple can do whatever it wants with the data placed on their servers......

Please can someone explain what to think of this "feature"
Or shall we just call it the "Fourth reich"?

NO, iSynch does NOT force you into using .mac (but it does require a WebDAVE server if you you want to use the synch home/work computers [and .mac uses WebDAVE] )

What about Bluetooth... AND it can use Airport, USB, Firewire etc.

Read up before posting a rant such as "Or shall we just call it the "Fourth reich"?" FOOL

Are you worried that your iSync data would be sold off by Apple or something since they can do anything with it? I trust my stuff being on their servers more then I trust my own external HD!

They should sell it to advertisers...think it, they'll know exactly where you will be and when...targeted advertising at its best. The advert companies could then send people out to harass wherever you were and in person. That'd be awesome.

LOL, apple isn't going to sell your information. The license says is written to protect Apple if you put up illegal material or are planning a major terrorist attack using iCal.

Just for nitpicking purposes.. it's WebDAV not WebDAVE, mitchell. Other than that, I agree with you.

... and just for nitpicking - *nix, *doze platforms can suport webDAV so it's not exclusive to .mac.

Personally I think it's stupid that they call it "dot mac" - a real innovation there.

Just to add a bit more info, every single Mac running OS X is capable of being a WebDAV server. It only takes a simple change to the Apache config file to turn it into a WebDAV server.

This is going to allow people to easily share appointment information using iCal on SoHo networks.

I can’t find anything which talks about iSync storing information on .mac, iCal can do this. All the text on the iSync page talks about it synchronizing with devices.

I have looked around at other sites and they mention iSync being able to synchronize other machines using .Mac but I can’t find any mention of this in Apple’s iSync notes.

Must they innovate names, too? Is Raman innovative? Is ASIMO? Is Mitchell?
