Hello all,

Anyone have an idea of the productive working capacity of the OSX Server 10.2 server, i.e. how many accounts it can effectively maintain, etc.?

Or is a third party solution like Communigate a better option?

Best regards,
Chris

I'd love to know about this too. I work at small company (40-50 staff). We currently run our email server WebStar's WebMAIL 4.4 on MacOS 9.2.2. It doesn't seem to be terribly robust/stable and I'd love to move to a MacOS X based solution.

Will MacOS 10.2 Server 10-client version or even MacOS 10.2 Client do? (I believe the 10-client version restricts file-server access to 10 users, yes?).

Do I need to purchase Stalker's Communigate Pro or does MacOS 10.2 come with email server software? Would love to hear from anyone who has a similar set up. Thanks.

I believe sendmail comes with all versions of OSX, but needs to be enabled. I bought Sams MacOSX Unleashed, and there's a section in there on enabling it. It's touted to be a great mail server, but it's also been said that it's quite difficult to set up. But it's an option anyway.

Best regards,
Chris

OS X server comes with a mail server, but at least in 10.1.x it was hard to set up and fragile. If you really want to run a mail server, you should definitely get CommuniGate Pro. This is simple to set up and very robust. It can be administered from any other machine on the net via a browser (I fixed a mailer setting that led to unfortunate vulnerability this past summer working from a public-access terminal in a bar in Switzerland). It also includes web mail, so your users can read their mail remotely anywhere they can find a browser. Frequent updates, responsive tech support people. This is definitely the way to go.
