Has anybody noticed that the Zapfino typeface changed between OS X 10.1 and OS X 10.2? My website used this font, and now I can't create new images for it!

I didn't mention this but I hope you are aware of the many typefaces that Zapfino has... there are 4 Fonts at least plus Ornaments etc... I dunno if Apple released (bought) all of them. maybe they added some.

Well, I've now looked into that (I didn't know there were 4+ versions of the font), but each version is rather distinct. I also figured out how to install my 'old' version, existing in my OS 9 System Folder. They are both "Zapfino 1", but the OS X 10.2 has different curves than the first. Also, the point sizes differ greatly (72pt Zapfino old = same pixel height as 12pt Zapfino new!).

Off topic, but related.

I'm using Zapfino for my wedding invitations. It is completely unusable in many Windows applications (don't ask me why we were using Windows for a desktop publishing job. It's a long story and involves family politics). Anway, all Windows applications we tried rendered Zapfino with bits cut off the top and/or bottom and/or with massivs spaces between each line. I suspect that the applications could not cope properly with the way that the, eg, 12 point characters are actually larger than 12 point, etc.

(In the end, I did it all on the Mac, saved as PDF and copied that to the Windows, and lo and behold it just worked in Acrobat Reader, of course).

I noticed Zapfino has changed - if you type the word 'Zapfino' in Zapfino font, the whole thing is replaced by a single glyph. Very, very stylish. If used to just be the 'pf' ligature.

Yikes! After reading that PDF, I think I want the old version of Zapfino back... and I've never even actually used it for anything. 72 point leading on a 28.8 point font, which you say looks like a size even greater than that?

Interestingly, I happen to currently be on a lab machine running Mac OS X 10.1... so... let me see if I got this right. Zapfino is in .dfont format, which I believe has no resource fork, and can only be read by Mac OS X, which comes with Zapfino by default. Therefore, if you can read a dfont file, you have a copy of Zapfino and therefore have the right to download a different version of it. So... The original Zapfino.
