Pretty standard stuff divided into various sections ...

Section 1: Everyday apps I use at work ...

Finder, Safari, Mail, iCal, Address Book, Remote Desktop Client

Section 2: Productivity apps I use at work ...

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner

Section 3: Audio/Visual apps ...

iTunes, Preview, QuickTime, Windows Media Player, RealOne Player

Section 4: Miscellaneous apps used ...

Watson, iChat, Calculator, Stickies, TextEdit, Terminal, System Preferences

Section 5: Folders...

"Other Apps" folder for those applications used less frequently, "Downloads" folder, and Trash

cool, but i cant get synergy to work. i cant put it in my prefpane folder

There are tons of reasons to use System Preferences.. Changing desktop background, Screen Effects, startup disk, iChatStatus, Mouse Cursor, check current IP, Software Update, enable InkWell...

I could go on but everyone have their own needs. I just hating seeing Sys Pref icon appear/vanish from my dock all the time.

Just unstuff the file, then drag the dividers to the document part of the dock, then they 'magically' float to the app side. how do they do that?
I checked into the package contents, nothing there.

Theoretically yes. Unfortunately some apps are badly written and drains more on the cpu than other. QE and lots of ram helps. X is quite much a multitasking heaven as long the hardware is up for it.
