I'm contemplating getting the OSX:Missing Manual for a friend of mine. He is new to the Mac (just got a dual 1Gig about two months ago). He's used a PC for quite a while, but is by no means a power-user. Is this an appropriate book or does someone have another recommendation?

Good book... goes all the way from very basic to (moderately) advanced.

The Missing Manual is a big book. If your friend wants to understand the concepts behind OS X, and know why things work the way they do, then the Missing Manual is an excellent resource.

However, if your friend doesn't care about any of that, and just wants to know, "How do I do this?" then the Missing Manual might be more information that he wants.
