prior to 10.2.3, if you created a folder on a shared network server (like our Win NT servers here at work), the default permissions were Read & Write for the creator, but Read-Only for everyone else. considering that we all share files off the server this was causing A LOT of confusion for people -- try explaining to a graphic designer why they need to set folder permissions.
i sent feedback to apple letting them know that this was becoming a big problem in our company (and had been slowing down the adoption of OS X).
now, i don't know if my feedback had anything to do with it, but now in 10.2.3 the default permissions when creating a new folder on theshared network drive is Read & Write for everyone.
