Did you have to install any hacked files to get the drive to be supported in OS X before? You usually have to reinstal those when you do a software update, but that should only prevent you from burning in the finder and in iTunes -- it shouldn't affect discs mounting.

Sorry this post doesn't solve your problem. But in the hopes of adding some reassurance that the update doesn't directly break anything directly related to the combo drive, I can report that the Matshita CW-8121 in my PowerBook continues to work just fine.

What does Apple System Profiler say about your drive? Does it recognise it? I've got a Matshitty drive in my Quicksilver G4 and it still works fine after the update.

Is it only Mac OS X Burner or also Toast?

It happened to me: in OS X.1.5 my external burner was recognised by Burner (OS X) and Toast, but after Jaguar no more, only Toast

I had the same thing after updated my DVI 667 to 10.2.3.
If you use toast it will work but you won't see the blank disc on the desktop, however after toast is finished and you eject it it will remount and you will see it. Try this, insert a blanc disc and then log out and log back in, you should see the disc. This is I thnik an introduced bug with 10.2.3, I must say though it only affects certain media, Sanyo and Verbatum seem to be the culprets.
