I tried installing Yellow Dog from the install CD, onto an external Firewire hard drive. However, there is no option for that.

Is there any Linux distro that can be installed this way? I can't do a drive swap since I'm running a laptop here.

Please note that I am a Linux newbie. I'm only installing Linux for check into some OS X DVD-R permissions issues. (See thread here.)
