how does it work
well, considering that there has not been any offical release of anything about firewire 2, it would be hard to know
why are you asking about this?
But, probably you won't unless the camera is made with firewire 2

You will need a camera that supports FireWire 2.0
But Firewire isn't even shipping yet so don't think about it too much.

You do the same.
As for speed increases, here's the deal. Many DV devices don't even use the full bandwidth of FireWire (though some do). For those which don't, you'll only see a speed increase on buses which are already heavily-loaded, simply because there is more bandwidth to go around. Even for those which don't limit their speed, it's still capped at FireWire's maximum, so you won't see an increase in FirwWire2, except on heavily-loaded buses.
However, your devices will still work with FireWire2, at the same speeds they did before. That's what backward-compatibility is. However, just as with USB devices on a USB2 bus, it's not possible to make old devices go any faster than they were originally designed; it's not like you can go in, rip out the old FireWire controller chip, and put a FireWire2 chip in its place.

And stop the insults. Unless KellyHogan is a lot more 31337 than any of us has imagined as of yet, he and Green Leaf are two different people. I could prove this, if I had permission from both of them to post their IP address information.

Let me put it this way: If Volkswagen builds a new Beetle, which is twice as fast, does that mean that all 20-year old Beetles will go twice as fast as well?

What does that have to do with FireWire 2's effect on FireWire 1 devices?

I'm not taking a position on this, but that doesn't prove that they are two different people. One person can post from multiple IPs (home vs work, etc.)

The IPs could be from different countries

Noone knows, but I think that it will happen at the same time as Apple implements FW2.

True. But at the moment they are logged on at the same time, one from the UK and one from the US. While it is still theoretically possible for one person to be controlling both of these, I doubt that Kelly is hardcore (or obsessive) enough to do that.

Orange Micro makes a USB2 card for the Mac, complete with drivers.

What's the big deal about USB2?
If you need it a lot, get a card. I seem to find firewire adequate for high speed transfer.

How the hell would anyone here know that? Call Steve and ask him.
If you have a PCI card in your Mac you can go and buy a USB 2.0 card right now.

Can't that be done with a proxy server?

It can, but remember that this proxy server is in another country across the Atlantic; he would have to have gained access to that somehow. Then he'd have to keep at least two browsers open (two completely different ones, so that the sessions and cookies didn't interfere with one another). Then he'd have to be careful about keeping track of who's posting in what thread.
Assuming he could even get access to the proxy server, I doubt he's dedicated enough to trolling to try and pull a stunt like this.

Remember his problems with his Macs? I don't think he is capable of doing anything like that.

...and according to etiquette, you should post it as a new topic. Completely changing the whole topic of an existing thread right out from under the readers isn't very nice.

Well he does have at least two macs and a PC so the browser part wouldn't be difficult.
The thing that makes my spidy sense tingle is the fact that they never post in the same threads. Its like he is trying to keep them apart to not arouse suspision which makes me suspicious!
Your probably right though, even for him this might be too much work.

Current Firewire is jst as fast as (and often faster) than USB2. (Even though in theory USB2 is "faster".... So, why? Most stuff Macs use USB for (printers, speakers, mice, audio, etc) don't tax USB1 (and in the case of printers, USB1 isn't saturated by the data), so what's the point?
About the only good thing USB2 is for is burners and drivers, both of which are FASTER on plain Firewire...

If you need USB 2.0 support just get a USB 2.0 PCI card.

Firewire 2 is probably just around the corner. Unfortunately, it will not be backward compatible with the original firewire. I have sources that I have been in contact with that have informed me that the next version will use a CAT 5 connection. Has anybody heard anything else?

That is patently absurd. Firewire 2 is fully backwards compatible with FW. It offers more connection options, Cat5 being one of them, but it isn't tied to any particular pinout or plug type. FW2 supports everything from 6-pin wires to optical cabling. A simple bridge will hook a FW DV camera up to a brand spanking new FW2 system or adapter.

Apple will begin supporting USB 2 and Firewire 2 when you stop bugging them about it!
