Ok here is my current set up:

20 GIG drive with two partions.

Partition 1: OS 10.2.3 and OS X applications
Partition 2: OS 9.2.2 and OS 9 applications

The drive is installed in my PISMO powerbook.

I will be taking the current drive out of the PB and installing a new drive. I will then take the old drive and install it into an external firewire drive case.

How do I copy "mirror" the contents from the old drive to the new drive?

Thanks!

Use Carbon Copy Cloner or the OSX CLI utiity asr to mirror the OSX partition. You can use the Finder to mirror the OS 9 partition.

Do this BEFORE you swap the drive.

Ok, so how do I initilize the new drive? Also, when you say "You can use the Finder to mirror the OS 9 partition" you mean drag the contents of the OS 9 partition to the new partition.

Let me know if this is correct.

1- Boot my PowerBook into OS X
2- Connect the new drive (in the firewire case) and format it with two partitions.
3- Run Carbon Copy Cloner to copy the contents of the OS X partition to the new OS X partition on the new drive.
4- Drag the contents of the OS 9 partition to the OS 9 partiton on the new drive.
5- Shut down
6- Swap drives
7- Reboot and all will be good?

Please correct any mistakes.

Thanks!

You got it!

Use Disk Utility to do the partitioning to "Mac OSX extended" and make sure you check the 'Install OS9 disk drivers' on the OS9 partition (FWIW I do it on all partitions).

BTW if your OSX partition is =< 4GB you can also use Apple Software Restore running in OS 9 to 'restore' your OS X partition on the old drive to the new drive.
