On Saturday I upgraded my Dual 533 to PowerLogix's new Dual 1GHz card. While things are quicker, they are not as snappy as one would have hoped. Could this possibly be because the PowerLogix card uses the 7450 (?) chip as opposed to the 533's 7400 chip? Since the processor chipset is different, should I reinstall Jaguar to get a optimized kernal?

Benchmarks show only about a 20% increase in CPU results and that just can't be right. Using Setiathome (cmd line) my average time per result has gone down from 10 hrs to 9 hrs. Doubling the CPU speed should show a much better set of results in processor intensive applications in my opinion. I understand Video, Disk and Memory speeds will only show a small increase, but raw CPU usage should increase quite a bit I would hope anyway.

Thoughts?

Reinstalling Jaguar won't change anything since the microprocessors are basically the same. They're both PPC-compatible but differ in some minor aspects like L3-cache or assembling technique. Basically, the 7450 is an upgraded 7400 with no major changes.
You may need to install a L3-cache enabler though, not sure whether OS X uses the PowerLogix built-in L3-cache.
