uh... for some reason my post was empty - my question is: how do you close the lid of a powerbook and still keep it running?

Thanks.

The trick is that you need so start it with the lid closed. The new Apple pro keyboards don't have a power key like the old G3 ones did, so you need to open the lid press the on button and quickly close the lid as soon as you hear the chimes, otherwise you will end up in a never ending sleep, wakeup, sleep cycle because the lid is closed.

Hope this helps.

You can have it on. Just plug in an external display, keyboard and mouse. Set the displays to mirrored, rather than an extended desktop. Then just close the lid. Once it goes to sleep, just hit any key to wake it up and you're set.

Unfortunately this doesn't work for iBooks. They just keep going back to sleep after you've awakened them within 10 seconds.

It's a bit tricky and largely unreliable.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But just close the lid, and attaching the original keyboard of my Bondi Blue does the tric though, while connected to a 21 inch crt.
