I recently did a clean install of my hard disk and installed OS X. I'd like to install OS 9 on the disk for Classic applications but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I tried starting off the OS 9 CD but it says I can't install it on the disk cause I can't install a lower version over a higher version. What is going on here? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Zack

when you did your "clean install" did you reformat the disk? and then when installing did you not check the little box that said "install os 9 disk drivers" or something like that? that could cause the problem.....

this has been asked here more than a few times already.....try doing a search in this forum and you'll probably get at least few hits that will help you out. (i'm too tired out right now to look...sorry...)

edit: okay...i was browsing the ai forums and found this thread which should help you out...note the post which points to this apple kbase article which tells how to get the os 9 disk driver on your system if it isn't there.

The issue isn't the disk driver. If it was, his hard drive wouldn't have even shown up when booted from the OS 9 CD.

You need to do a clean install--In the OS 9 Installer app, click "Options" and then check "Perform clean install." The installer is programmed to disallow installation when the pre-existing system is of a higher version, so you need to tell it to do a clean install.

And please do some research before posting. There have been many threads on this subject.

To clarify, start up off the OS 9 CD and do a clean install.

Will this erase my hard disk?

Thanks

So you say it isn't possible to first install OS X and then OS 9?
Don't think so.

Why a clean install when there is no OS 9 system at all? What is the use of a clean install then?

Me no understand...

O, and before going to sleep after X-mas-going-have-a-drink-evening-night: I prefer the encouraging approach of mr. Blur instead of wataru.
After all this guy only has 26 posts and just asks a question nobody really understood the answer when we did the first Mac OS X BETA. Now it's his turn.

Like if you always first do a ten days survey on the internet etc. before asking a question. Come on, be nice.

Anyway, happy holidays to all!!

Going to sleep now...zzzzzzzz
