Seemingly random crashes

Since installing OS X, I've had the most random freezes I've ever seen. The computer will completely freeze up with any combination of applications open while I'm either moving the mouse, opening a file, etc. It seems like anything I do can trigger it. Obviously, this is getting very frustrating and I'm desperate for any help. I've done a clean install of my disk and run Drive 10 to check it out. I'm thinking it might be bad RAM but I can't find any program to check that. Any suggestions would be very appreciated including the name of a RAM checking program.
Thanks a lot
Zack

Yes, seemingly random crashes always sound linke a hardware problem.
Take out any additionally installed RAM out of your machine and check if the crashyness remains.

Isn't there a program that can check for that sort of thing?
I did install a new RAM chip after the one I bought over the Internet just completely died. But it was working fine while I was using OS 9 (and still does if I boot into it). I can take out the RAM but would rather not if I don't have to cause that would leave me with 128 MB of RAM during the testing phase.
Thanks
Zack

I think there are such programs for OS 9. But it's hard to reliably test RAM with software so the results may say nothing. As does the fact that it runs fine in 9. The way OS 9 allocates memory it might never hit the faulty spot.

Thanks a lot for the advice. Do you know the name of the OS 9 software? I guess I'll have to do the check by physically taking it out but this could save me a lot of time.

One more question...If I take the RAM into the dealer, will they have a hardware device that will allow them to check it?
Thanks
Zack

Here in Germany usually no computer dealer but good electronics stores have it (and they charge you for testing it here).
Don't remember the app that did RAM testing under 9, someone else must help out here.
Run without the additional RAM for some time, that's the easiest way to find out if it's the reason.
It's a pain for some time time, but not more than constant random lockups.
