For those of us poor people still on dial up, how the hell are we supposed to wait up to 5 hours for this beast to download? Isn't it broken up into segments somewhere? This is freakin reediculous.

Don't you have a friend or local dealer that can help you out? It's a free update, so a dealer shouldn't have any problem setting you up.

I think you can order an update on CD also. Check with Apple. Or have someone else burn you a CD and drop it in the mail.

It's big because it has a lot of new and improved code. You shouldn't complain that they updated a lot - that's a good thing!

I've heard a nasty rumor that there are graphics drivers for my G3 Powerbook... Any truth to the rumors?

I think the Software Update app should be able to cope with resuming downloads... I filed a feature request with Apple on that a year or so ago, and it was closed before 10.2. Of course, I can't test, I'm on ADSL now

Oh, to be on broadband...

I'm just gonna have to go to CompUSA or something. Maybe they can hook me up.

You should be able to close the connection before the download finishes even on ADSL.

Suffer with the download, or order the update on cd.

I just went to CompUSA. It took only 5 freakin minutes to download the 10.2.3 update, vice ONLY 7 hours or so on my dial up connection.

I also loaded up an entire cd-r full of stuff while I was there, including Open Office, which only took 25 minutes to download.

I love CompUSA.

You think 10.2.3 is bad - the new dev tools are 300 MB!

As someone else said, Software Update is able to resume downloads if disconnected (or if you decide to cancel it), so problem solved.

why don't you quit bitching? Are apple supposed to compromise their updates by making them as small as possible. Use a download resuming tool or try broadband. You never know - you may like it

Why the hell don't apple let magazines put the update on their cds like they used to? It's ridiculous.

I tried stopping and starting the update on my computer since my DSL was acting up and the download kept timing out. Although it appeared from the status bar that the download was being resumed, a quick look in the cache revealed that somehow 100+ MB had been downloaded thanks to it starting over several times. So at least on my machine, Software Update does not resume downloads properly.

Yes, indeed: putting the updates on magazines would solve the problems of those without broadband - and at the same time favor the mac magazines, and, thus, indirectly, also Apple itself.

Apple sometimes does very odd things, almost against itself (see also the iDVD "restriction", for example)!
