For those of you who don't know, Apple continues to sell it's QTVR Authoring Studio Software, and Hypercard Authoring Software, on it's Apple Store Online.

This in spite of them claiming Mac OS 9 is dead - remember they are both Mac OS 9 software packages, although they do run perfectly fine in the Classic environment.

But the issue remains, what will Apple do with them? Carbonise them or stop selling them?

There are two perfectly good Mac OS X native alternatives also, Stitcher 3.5 does everything QTVR Authoring Studio does, and Supercard does the same for Hypercard (it even can open existing Hypercard projects).

So why won't Apple abandon it's own software for two perfectly good Mac OS X native alternatives (that are backwards compatible with their own packages).

Discuss...

Hypercard is still being used in a lot of schools. Not many schools have migrated to OS X yet and probably won't. The company I work for is an educational software publisher. We did some market studies on OS X & 9's use and found a predominance of OS9 by a very high margin. We did this because our products are created in Director which until just recently, was only available for OS9. Apple still has some of these products in stock in great quantity, so it still makes sense to sell it.

Supercard runs both in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X - so does the stacks that it creates.

Supercard is very similar to Hypercard, and can import existing Hypercard projects.

Logic would dictate a migration to Supercard.

Same for Macromedia Director MX, one project, and you can compile both projectors for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Director MX just became available in the last month. We have over 100 very very large projects.
I don't understand the rest of your comments regarding Logic and why Apple still sells HyperCard. Are you saying Apple should just throw out their inventory so a 3rd party could reap benefits from their exit from the marketplace?
Even though OS9 is dead, doesn't mean the existing product line should be killed. All it means to me is that no further develop will be done, not that all is axed for that platform.
I created and still sell a point-of-sale program for the Mac that it not carbonized, should I stop selling it since there is a native OS X version available from another company?

Shrink your signature please.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Revolution is better than Supercard, IMO, though I haven't used SC much at all.

Unfortunately true. I'm the sysadmin of a high school (Mac only).

We're migrating to 10.2 by next year, from OS9 (which works brilliantly, I must say).
