this seems like a simple problem but...

i recently bought my girlfriend a digital camera (well for christmas) and it has a limited movie functionality. iphoto works a treat and i can play the movie in quicktime no problem, in fact i feel all digital hub like.

what i am unable to do and what i want to do is place the movie in imovie and then build up a compilation of entertaining moments. i've read 'help' i've picked 'import movie' but the file remains 'whited out' (for want of a better expression) and refuses to be selectable. the file is a .MOV file and i have even changed a file to .AIFF in a vain attempt to get it to work.

is what i am trying possible?
why won't it work?

its infuriating as it seems possible and simple...

ta!

In QuickTime Player export the movies to "DV Stream" format. That's the only format iMovie can import.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

The movie has to be in a SPECIFIC format:

720x480 DV format.

Since your digital camera is a still camera, your movies can "upscale" but they'll look horrendous.

but...

is there another way of coverting the file other than in qt?

the export feature is a qt pro aspect and the australian dollar makes it an expensive exercise...
