Since I updated to Jaguar, afp file transfers in the Finder are painfully slow... This was fast in 10.1 (5 minutes to copy a f15 mb file). It seems that smb is affected too.

I wonder how they can make us pay for this kind of performance....

Has anyone managed to identify the cause of this problem? It seems that all disk/IO are really slow under Jaguar...

edit: trying to be a bit more constructive

Disk IO ops have slowed down, but not that much. Via AFP, I've had some problems. Between the G4 and iBook, all is good. Between any machine and the iMac, I get transfers slower than a 28K modem. Duplexing issue, I'm assuming. Been that way since 10.2.

Oh well...

What? 5minutes for a 15MB file?! That's appalling to start with! Methinks your system might be messed up a bit, even something as slow as 10 Base-T ethernet should be significantly faster than that. I've got a 10 Base-T ethernet setup at my home here and it took 36 seconds to transfer a 14.3MB file (closest I had to 15MB without looking too hard!)

I'm using a Quicksilver 733 (10.2.3) connected to a Beige G3/266 (9.2.2, will try with 10.2.3 on this later).

When was the last time you restarted? OS X's networking gets FUBAR occasionally if left with an errant process running for any length of time.

[Edit:] Maybe try turn Journaling off if you turned it on before. I don't have it turned on.

I don't have journaling turned on, and my OS X install is as clean as possible. It has been restarted just a few minutes before I tried to copy the file. I did notice this problem since the first 10.2 (6C115) build. It's definitely something wrong with Jaguar. I hope they will care to fix this soon because it's really frustrating.
