I'm not sure why, but all of a sudden I am unable to open IE without it crashing on me. I was merely developing a page for my website, testing it, and then suddenly IE crashed. Now, whenever I attempt to open the application, it crashes before the initially page fully opens. Any clue as to why? How would I go about installing just this application if this is the only option?

You could try deleting com.microsoft.explorer.plist and see if it will run. ~/Library/Preferences
However, I aggree with Seamus.

Now that a few people have taken shots at IE, could someone now help me to solve the problem?

I tried deleting IE by dragging the Applications->IE icon into the trash can. I then downloaded and reinstalled IE, but it still crashes every time I try to open it.

What should I do?

I'm chiming in with AKcrab about deleting the plist. Reinstalling Explorer does not purge this file.

I looked for this file in order to delete it, but it didn't exist in the specified location. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Search for it with the Finder (or Sherlock if you're on 10.1).
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

I should have thought of that. Duh!

Either way, I found it, deleted, and IE still crashes every time.

There's also an Explorer folder in Preferences. Trash (or temporarily remove) that and the MS Internet Cache file in ~/Library/Caches

If that doesn't help, post one crash log here (it's in ~Library/Logs/CrashReporter).

So did you try trashing the Explorer folder in ~Library/Preferences? Looks like a problem with the Favorites file inside there.

perhaps you're doing a refresh of your page. IE will crash 5 times out of 10 for me if I hit refresh before the original page is fully loaded. you can watch this number jump to 8 of 10 if you hold the option key down for a force refresh.

I looked in that folder and I didn't see anything related to IE in there. Everything was com.apple.[blah].plist. What is the name of the plist file I am looking for so I can do a search for it. Thanks.

The folder is ~/Library/Preferences/Explorer. There are a number of files in there, including your favorites, so be sure to make a backup of this directory before deleting it. That way you can at least move your favorites back in if it does fix the launch problem.

In case you don't know this yet, the tilde ~ is your home folder, i. e. the folder that has your user name.
Or just search for "Explorer" using the Finder/Sherlock. It will find one folder with this name in your preferences folder containing Hisotry.html and Favorites.html files and other stuff related to Internet Explorer. Move that folder out of the preferences folder and report back if that fixed your problem.
