Did I read somewhere that Apple was expected to release a minor QuickTime update to facilitate creating MPEG-4 video destined for 3G mobile/cell-phone technology? Maybe we will hear something more about it at Macworld (early January). I think when it comes to mobile/cell-phones the US is a bit behind Europe (GSM was deployed through Europe much faster than in the US).

QT 6.1 will support the 3GPP standard which is used to encode/decode video-content for mobile devices. PacketVideo is using this profile for example.
hopefully there will be a QuickTime version for mobile devices, maybe for the Symbian (used on the Nokia 7650) platform.
