I use it simply as an internal network dns cache, so all my dns querys are generally less than a second now. It can be more, though, and it's easy to setup.

Bind is easy, but to make "named" run you have to turn off the mDNSResponder thingy thats installed with OS X. I got my OS X client to run named on startup, it works very well.
