I'm a switcher and i've just bought my first mac.

I want to learn how to get the most out of my UNIX-mac.

any tips on websites/tutorials for learning how to use the terminal?

i've got some experience with Linux, but not much..

Here are a few good places to go.

http://www.bluap.nl/osx/clitutorial.php

http://homepage.mac.com/rgriff/termguide.html

http://www.mcsr.olemiss.edu/unixhelp/commanz/index.html

The following is oriented more towards Linux, but most of it applies to OSX as well. It is quite good.

After you've gone through these, I'd suggest going to OSX Hints and then seeing what hints are in the Unix section. Typically there are a few that you might find useful. I've always found that doing things that are actually useful is the best way to learn.

Note that most hints are probably beyond what you need or (likely) understand. However every 10 hints or so there is something that might be helpful.

There are a number of good large size books -- and I'll let the pros here recommend on that, (except to say I'd check the copyright date on the inside and contents and try to get somethng recent that encompasses 10.2 Jaguar ) .

For everyday, I find a quick pocket-size reference indispensible when I just can't quite remember something ..Mac OSX Pocker Reference by O'Reilly is small enough to really fit in a pocket and packs all the essential info in a convenient format. So when things get mysterios and that process you think is running doesn't seem to show up in "top" you look up "processes" in the index, go to page whatever and find that "ps -aux" is what you are looking for. etc. etc.

Subscribing to the various mags is also a good source of conveniently pulled together info: macaddict, macworld etc.

welcome to the fold

This is my favourite place to start if you want to get comfy with the Terminal:

but I'm sure the others recommended above are good as well - this is easier than it seems as first.
