Every time I capture a screen, the file appears in PDF format. I want to save it using another format. I've downloaded Tinker Tool (which in the past allowed me to change this) but now seems this option is not available anymore.
How do I achive this?
Thanks

If you open the file in Preview you can use the Export command to convert it to a variety of formats.

Or you can use Grab from the Utilities folder to capture in other formats.
Or you can capture to the clipboard (hold the control key down when you take the shot) and paste it into the graphics program of your choice.

Wow ... never thought I'd hear anyone say that. Everybody hated Grab back in the day.

Other format(s)? tiff seems to be all Grab will do for me, although that's handy. Any way to set jpeg as the preferred format?
The control key to capture to clipboard is new to me, and also handy. Thanks.

I was mistaken about Grab. It only saves in TIFF. I was confusing its capability with Preview, which can export in multiple formats.

get TinkerTool. when you install it, you have the option of taking screenshots in any format that quicktime supports. TIFF, JPEG, etc.

Those options worked in 10.0 and 10.1 but not in Jaguar.
Snapshots in Jaguar are handled by CoreGraphics which only supports TIFF.

I think the control key trick is a great shortcut. This is fully documented in Mac Help. Of course I, like you, hardly ever think to look there. But I use it a lot more now than I ever did before. The answers to my questions are often there.

I just keep a little utility called DropJPEG in my dock and when I get the .pdf file I drop it onto that and instantly have the file I want. Very handy. versiontracker.com of course

Or you can use terminal:
screencapture -c
That sends the screen capture to the clipboard, and then you can paste that into PS or something similar and save to dozens of formats.
