Ok, before someone goes crazy telling me that this is illegal, let me explain:
I have a Japanese Playstation One. I really, really like the Dance Dance Revolution series of games, and my favorite Mix, 5th Mix, is only available in Japan. I purchased 5th Mix when in Japan, and have played the heck out of it. Unfortunately, Japanese PSX discs scratch very easily, so I want to "save" my precious, precious 5th Mix and put it onto a CD-R. I know I will have to get my system modded, which isn't really illegal or legal, but I really want to not have to buy another 5th Mix. Japanese PSX games are much more expensive than American PSX games, I think I paid $48 for 5th Mix.
Anywho, how do I do this in OS X? I don't have OS 9 installed anymore and Toast sees 5th Mix as an Audio CD. I also know that PSX games are written in a sort of "Disc-At-Once" manner, where the Data is evenly spread over the entire CD. Any help is appreciated.

Oh, that reminds me. Does anyone want to port, or release for the Mac, a copy of Dance With Intensity?
It's a great app for Windows that emulates DDR very well, and you can download almost any song that exists in any DDR Mix. I think info is posted at www.ddrmaniax.net
Just curious.

The only way I know to do it in OS 9 involved Astarte CD Copy, which doesn't exist for OS X. I don't even know of a similar product--it must take a bit-by-bit copy of a CD.

Would a device image work, or is that not strictly bit-for-bit?

Wondering if anyone knows how to do this right, I've got a few games on my psone which I don't want to open seen as they go for £80+ sealed (and I bought them for just a bit less) so the price is going to rocket in the next few years. Anyway I found a version of it on the net in bin/cue format which i burned in toast but when i put it in my ps it doesnt do anything. Is there anything special I have to do? All mac instructions go on about os9, toast 3 and astarte cd copy (for ripping i think not burning so that shouldnt matter)
Thanks a ton in advance.

I don't know exactly how this is done but if you are in the mood to experiment look up some guide on how to burn a windows bootable cd from os x, this is probably the same style of burned disk that the PS wants. Toast has some options but I don't really understand them (bin/cue files vs. ISO 9660), disk utility has an option along the lines of burn cd/dvd master and I think that may be a step in the right direction. In any case good luck and if you find a way be sure to let everyone here know how you did it.

Even if you do manage to burn a game, you will either need to use the swap trick or a mod chip (or a mod attachment if you have an older PS with the port in the back) to get it to load. PS games have a bad block intentionally written into the beginning of the disc that CAN'T be replicated without special equipment. So you either need to bypass the search for that block (via mod chip or mod thingy) or you need to swap the disc at just the right time so it reads the bad block of a real PS game but continues on to load yours. I've done the swap trick many times before (you learn to do it accurately by the sound of the motor) on an old PS, but never a PSone. I don't know if it's even possible on a PSone.

I don't think swaptrick is possible on a psone, but this one is supposed to be modded (said so on ebay and has some screws missing at the bottom, gah lazy people. Suppose maybe the mod could have got messed in the post or might not have been done too well hmm regular psone games work however.

You think 5th mix is the best one? Wow... I think it's great and all, but 3rd mix is like 10x better. Plus my favourite song is Dam Dariram. I've been playing for about 5/6 years. My 5th mix CD doesn't have any scratches on it either.
Oh yeah I can't contribute to your request sorry
