You can, but the text "Trash" won't appear. Even if it does, the trash icon gets shifted way to the top and looks nasty. I think Apple doesn't want trash on the toolbar. I would saddly say get used to it like some of us have

That's referred to as the Menu Bar. He's referring to the row of icons at the top of a Finder window. There was a trick to getting the trash can there in 10.1, but Apple did away with it in 10.2.

I did an Archive and install upgrade from 10.1 to 10.2, and still have my trash can there, because it was stored in the finder prefs file. I've copied the prefs file, and jealously guard it.

But anyway, one way to get the trash back in the toolbar would be to put the trash in the toolbar on a machine with 10.1 installed, then copy that finder.plist to your 10.2 install. You'll want to go with icons only, as the icon arrangement gets all screwy with icons and text on.

Well the click and hold on title bar icon doesn't work any longer.

You have to have had it there already in 10.1. There's no way to put it there in 10.2 if it's not already in your prefs when you update 10.1-->10.2

I deleted it once, then copied my 10.1 finder.plist from a backup install and got it back.

Perhaps if you've got an old backup of your users folder somewhere form 10.1 you could lift the finder pref file from there?

Open up the following file in a text editor:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

Add the following section to it, before the </array> line that is five lines from the bottom:

<dict>
<key>item-id</key>
<string>TCAN</string>
</dict>
This will add the trashcan to the end of your toolbar.

Wow, that was easy! Why didn't you just say so! Very cute. I don't know what I will use it for, but there it is! Thanks!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.
