Hi All,
I am in the UK and looking to purchase a new phone. I like the idea of iSync and a dongle bluetooth adapter for my Ti550.
The problem I have is I don't like the look of the Sony T68i , great phone, just too feminine, I however like the Sony T300, is that compatible with iSync for Address Book and iCal syncing? I also like the Nokia 7650 with the camera, I don't think this is compatible but what are the chances of Apple supporting Nokia?
Are Nokia big enough in the US for Apple to devote development costs? Do you think the iSync master will support an extensive range of phones?
My other query is I have just finished backing up all my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, I did this by duplicating them onto an iMac over a static TCP/IP fileshare. I was wondering would iSync be able to keep my powerbook and the iMac synced for these two folders using this single ethernet lead? I am not a .mac member and do not have the Backup software apple supplies,(I'm not sure how relevent that is).
All replies appreciated

My guess is that there's zero chance that Apple will ever support Nokia, Siemens, or Motorola.

Why so sure? I thought Nokia would get attention on the basis of its market share, unless they only sell well in the UK.

I'm also in the UK and got a T68i for christmas. I had a look at the
Nokia 7650 but its a big phone, I think the T68i is alot nicer.
Its possible apple might support nokia phones in the future but who can say for sure? only steve!
>>I thought Nokia would get attention on the basis of its market share<<

iSync wants to sync with SyncML. If a phone doesn't support SyncML, I'd say there's no chance that it will be possible to sync with iSync.

'iSync wants to sync with SyncML'
Do you know which manufacturers other than Sony use this? If a manufacturer uses this for one of their picture message phones is it likely other models will use it as well ie the Sony T68i and the Sony T300?

The problem with iSync and Nokia phones is not Apples fault. Its Nokias!
The Nokia 7650 (and upcoming 3650) do not support SyncML over Bluetooth. They could implement this if they wanted to...
So, hassle Nokia and maybe they will do something. I want a 7650 as well but not until Nokia do something about allowing it to work with iSync.
You can use the Bluetooth File Transfer Software in Jaguar to transfer photos etc. Its just the SyncML stuff that is missing. In fact, have a look here ( Apple Bluetooth Page ) and you'll see they mention the 7650.

So far, iSync is very limited ... hopefully that will change soon (next week ?)
the Mac to Mac sync features are limited (as far as I can tell) to AddressBook and iCal ... and you have to sync both.
I would have to assume that the "real" version of iSync will allow one to sync EITHER AddressBook or iCal as well as user specified folders and files. All speculation of course, but why have a syncing app that ONLY does addressBook and iCal ???
Also ... I think in the future (by the end of 2003) there should be a wide range of phones available that will work with iSync/Bluetooth .... these technologies are just now becoming available to the consumer, so the phones should be comming soon!!!

To set things right about that Nokia phone is that it does support SyncML however only over GPRS, not via Bluetooth interface required for iSync!

I'm right there with you. However, I think I'm going to go with the T68i and just change the faceplate to something like a plain dark grey.
