I see on the US website that there perhaps might be an updated version of iCal and that iSync is not a beta any more.

Can anyone confirm that iSync has made it to a master?

it is! iCal now opens up nice and fast!
I suppose I'll post more on it later, once I get more use out of it.

Check out Apple.com. Apple's gotten all honest with us -- it's talking about "bug fixes", rather than "performance enhancements"

I'm guessing Apple got these updates out now to free up a bit of bandwidth for Tuesday.

I can't get the .Mac address book sync to work either.

Maybe it's part of the .Mac outage we are having at the moment.

It may be due to the fact that .mac has been down since yesterday.

Remember to ask Apple when we get to make Disk Copy do that! Oh, wait, I'll put it on my snappy new iCal!

So, folks, if this is what we get today, Apple must have a pretty good show for us on Tuesday! I can't wait!

And that may be due to the fact that Apple is adding something new and cool to .Mac...or, it could just be another service outage. It's not like we haven't had any of those a before...

Speaking of pre-Macworld anticipation...

I would DEFINATELY download iCal/iSync this week. I heard it from a very reliable rumor source that next week apple is going to start charging 49.99 for every iApp. And that none of the iApps will run under Jaguar anymore, they will only run on a new digital lifestyle device that automatically changes colors and runs a stripped-down version of OSX called iOSX. And that if you install iApps under jaguar, starting with MWNY (or is it MWB?) that your machine will refuse to boot, unless you've installed iClassic--another new iApp.

This is going to be on big macworld! I can't wait to activate my iPod II cellular service!

Just downloaded iCal, not seeing too much of a performance increase in terms of speed. (Running on a eMac 700, 640 Mb SD RAM) However, it would seem that iCal does not automatically quit when you click on the close button. As well as that, iCal remembers the date in the dock after quitting.

Are these new or old time features, or could it be that Apple is actually listening to the end users and following their own GUI guidelines?

Yes, very welcome addition.

You`re right. I thought that an updated iSync and iCal would be a major point at the MWSF keynote. But now it looks like Steve has something else to present.

SHITE!!
just installed the updates - and iCal has gone screwy
now instead of starting 12am to 12am - it's now 6.12pm to 6.12pm (as the earliest and latest times - and every other option is of the 7.12, 8.12, etc. vain) This has also stuffed up the times for everything I had entered, and plus anything from last week and earlier is now gone!
WTF????

anybody else getting this?

What about Palm categories ? Would new events from Palm still end up in the unfiled category?

Anybody else thinks it would be cool if they added a "Other color" item in the menu where you change one calendar's color ?
I create one calendar of a different color for each type of class I have (one for Maths, one for English and so on), and I display them all at once. It's too bad there are only 6 colors to choose from...
Anyway, this release sure feels snappier™.
Can't wait to see what Steve shows us at the Keynote now !

Well, it is a time zone thing, since I can reproduce it if I set the time zone to Adelaide or Sydney.

There's a preference that sets the period after events are deleted. Maybe that got changed with the update.

re: timezone - you're right. I tried switching to GMT and it the times fixed themself. So it's sure nice of Apple to scratching some non crucial bug (like a little speed), they cripple the progam in such a way that a bunch of aussies can't use the damn program at all - utterly fantastic.

re: auto-delete. Seems this is a new one to me. It only ever deleted things on my to-do list, never any events.

I just tried out iSync.... looks like a great improvement. The .mac sync time is a lot quicker, its got to sync a good 2 or 3 times faster than it did before. iCal definatly does seem to have performance improvements, although window resizing is still slow.

on a side note for iCal.... turn off those warnings and that will definitely speed things up.

uncheck the Show the Safeguard panel!

Wow! I was so glad to see the Apple home page today . I started getting an iSync error on my MDD a few days ago, and I thought I would have to wait till MWSF or after to see if a new version resolved it. My experiences so far:

Installed the new iApp duo on my Ti500 w/o issue. Then off to my dual gig MDD where I was having problems. Well the new iSync would quit on launch . Uggg. Reinstall, same problem. Then I used the iSync uninstall utility completely remove it, did a permission repair, reboot, and reinstall. Now it works!

The only problem I have seen so far is that it won't add my "Health" calender to my new Xmas iPod (thanks Mom and Dad, and Amazon wishlist sending feature so I don't get twisted nonsense under the tree! ) I hope that I can figure out a way to resolve it, as getting those particular appointments to my iPod really help me stay on track day to day.

[I used to sync my Visor too but that was a mess. Maybe in a future version of iSync.]

I really like the new menu bar icon for iSync. I'm a big fan of them in general (I sent a few feedbacks to Apple asking for them since OS X PB.) It looks like it will maybe sync w/o even needing to open the app in some cases? What have your experiences been like so far?

That T68i is looking VERY tasty at this point. Hrrmmm...

It syncs in the background every hour (or so). The application doesn't have to be open. Very cool.

I'm thinking of getting my wife a Treo for her bday. Any experiences with the new iSync and Treos (the 180, specifically)?

I have that problem too on my Dual 1ghz tower.

I think it may be a font issue, as I have removed all non-essential fonts from the various font folders on that machine.

Any palm device that syncs with Palm Desktop 4.0 should work. I've got the Samsung Palm/Phone I300 which works flawlessly with a Keyspan serial->USB adapter. If you're looking for a palm/phone I'd look at the New Samsung i330 or the New Kyocera 7135

Do you write updates for MacOSRumors? If you don't already, you should ask, since it looks like you'd fit right in.

Well then, I guess you removed an "essential" font. As a matter of practice, NEVER remove a font if it comes with the system installed by default. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean that someone else will. If it is "standard issue" with the OS, then it is "fair game" to be used by any developer.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't remove fonts (you can do whatever you like), but just keep the above in mind with you do (in other words, don't blame Apple when removing a font "breaks" something).

It is a font issue. I can't remember which one you need to have for the calendar to show properly. I'm sure I read about the fix either here or in the AI forums. I'd search but searching sucks over there.
